About Our Council

Chartered in 1975, the Council was approved by the National Supreme Council and became known as the W. P. Morris Council, #6645, in honor of William Patrick Morris.  William was one of the first Catholics in Putnam County and was instrumental in promoting and encouraging the growth of the Catholic faith in and around Cookeville.

Our first Grand Knight for the 1974-1975 year was Gilbert Gabriel.  Business discussed in monthly meetings then included plans and updates on Church and Council activities, donations to local charities, and community work.  Early activities included an annual summer picnic, installation banquet, bingo nights, casino night, wine and cheese party, parish dinners and dances in Aquinas Hall, and the Tootsie Roll Drive fundraiser, among others.  For a more in-depth history of our Council click here.
